Tooth Ache

Any tooth ache that is severe or spontaneous in nature, is persistently worsening, wakes your child up at night and is related to swelling should be considered an emergency. You should call us right away. These symptoms could be a sign of a bigger problem like an infection. You can give your child Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for temporary pain relief, but you will need to see us so we can assess the situation and provide the appropriate care.

A tooth ache that is mild/moderate in nature, is sporadic or comes and goes should be monitored at home. If symptoms become persistent or worsen over time, do not hesitate to call us.

Cut or Bitten Tongue, Lip or Cheek

Ice can be applied to any bruised areas. For bleeding, apply firm (but gentle) pressure with sterile gauze or a clean cloth. If the bleeding does not stop with pressure or continues after 15 minutes, please come to our office.

Broken Tooth

Rinse the area with warm water. Put a cold compress over the facial area of the injury. Recover any broken tooth fragments. If the tooth has a small chip and your child has no pain, we will see your child as our schedule allows. Large breaks, causing moderate to severe pain, require immediate attention. Call our office immediately.

Knocked Out Permanent Tooth

Recover the tooth, making sure to hold it by the crown (top) and not the root end. Reinsert the tooth in the socket and hold it in place using a clean piece of gauze or cloth. If the tooth cannot be reinserted, carry it in a cup containing milk. Because time is essential, call our office immediately.

Knocked Out Baby Tooth

Unfortunately, nothing can be done when a baby tooth gets knocked out. The tooth can not be re-inserted, as doing so could damage the developing permanent tooth below it. You should contact us so that we can evaluate your child and rule out other injuries or tissue damage.

Bleeding After a Baby Tooth Falls Out

Fold a piece of gauze and place it (tightly) over the bleeding area. Bite down on the gauze for 15 minutes; if bleeding continues, call us.

Cold or Canker Sores

Over-the-counter medications will usually provide temporary relief. If sores persist, visit call us.
